Happy Times
The lights on stage were off, I felt nervous and excited at the same time. I was wearing a red dress with different colored hearts on it and tap shoes. There was a painted heart on my cheek, and I was holding a hula-hoop with long, red, streamers on it.
The lights went on in the High School auditorium, and I began to dance! I didn’t feel nervous anymore! I had practiced so hard, that as soon as I heard the music, I knew what I was doing. I was cool and confident!
Out in front of me were what seemed like one hundred people! Some people I knew and some I didn’t. But, that didn’t scare me! I was cool, confident, and proud! I was especially proud knowing my family and friends were enjoying my performance.
In the audience I could see Mommy, Dad, Papa, and Nana smiling up at me. I could tell that they were enjoying the show because their faces looked so happy!
When the performance came to an end, I bowed and smiled at the applause. I couldn’t help feel sad when the dance was over because I really had fun being on stage.
As I got off the stage, I was greeted with hugs from Mom and Dad, and beautiful roses from Nana and Papa! They smelled as fresh as spring! I could tell my family was proud at how well I had danced. My Mommy and Daddy surprised me by taking the whole family out to dinner at my favorite Mexican restaurant!
I love Mexican food, all of it! There were all kinds of yummy smells in the air! We sat at a big table with lots of good things to eat. Everyone at the table was talking about my recital. “Great job” said my mom. “You were wonderful on stage” said Nana and Papa. “I recorded the whole show” my Dad said. I was feeling very happy!
“Hooray!” I heard, then clapping, and then I saw them! A mariachi band! Papa had them sent to our table to play just for me! I smiled as I listened to them play their song. We all clapped at the end.
When diner was over there was one more surprise! Ice cream! I had a great, big bowl of chocolate chip ice cream with sprinkles. It was so good; I didn’t even mind getting brain freeze I just had to eat the ice cream slower.
On the way home, I was very tired; it had been a long day! When we got home I went straight to bed. As I was closing my eyes I thought, “This was the best day of my life”!
